Career and Technical Education

East Allen County Schools has various Career and Technical Education [CTE] classes for students to take that are rigorous and relevant.  EACS CTE initiative is to prepare youth for a wide range of high-wage, high-skill and high-demand careers.  Provided below are responses to questions from the five community meetings.

Better to have more vocation-tech not prepared for work force.
Our intentions are to offer opportunities for more vocational offerings at the former NHIS when it is converted into a career center.

What is considered vocational?  What programs?
Currently the programs at Anthis Career Center and the ABC Construction Trades Program are vocational offerings available to EACS students.  There are also vocational and technical programs offered at each High School.  The vision is to add additional vocational offerings that prepare students for occupations after high school.

Why isn’t the Career Center (in industrial arts wing) @ Harding?
Harding lacks the space to grow additional programs.

Sometimes there is pressure on students who are not going to college and are made to feel less important.
We want to provide vocational training during high school to students who want to pursue job paths that do not require a college degree.  Many of these professions have higher salaries and benefits than occupations that require a college degree.  We need to educate our students and the public.

Can ABC students help with painting etc.?
As long as it fit into their curriculum and there was time in the schedule to do so.

Will the EACS Career and Technical Center compete with Anthis?  Aren’t there only 6 to 7 students at Anthis?
We have fifty (50) student slots available at Anthis corporation-wide.  Yes, it would compete, but it is much more expensive to send our students to Anthis.  We would be able to configure and schedule in-house to reduce the loss of instructional time due to travel and being on different schedules than FWCS.
